WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Coming into the season as a contender to make it to Omaha for the first time since 1955, the Demon Deacons did nothing on opening weekend to discourage supporters in pursuit of their lofty expectations. 

Even without blue-chip righthander Teddy McGraw on the bump, the Deacs showed how exceptionally deep their pitching staff was on opening weekend, punching out 60 hitters compared to just nine walks.
