The Bearkats are quietly putting together a very solid postseason resume. Matt Deggs’ club lost the opening game of the Frisco tournament to Mississippi State two weekends ago, but has since won five straight games, including a midweek win over Rice this past week, along with a road series sweep over Houston Baptist, where the Bearkats scored 30 runs in three games. Riley McKnight had a huge game in a 17-run onslaught against the Huskies, knocking in four runs and smacking a home run, while in the series finale, SHSU used its bullpen to slam the door on HBU as righthander Nick Mikolajchak struck out six in 3.2 innings of relief work. SHSU will enter conference play with winning weekends in every non-conference slate, while also still hosting UConn at home in Huntsville in late April in a series that certainly could have intriguing postseason implications.
