Baumann: Texas Gets Luck On Its Side

AUSTIN, Texas — TCU starting pitcher Luken Baker slipped and fell on his first warmup pitch, which counts as an omen these parts. The favored Horned Frogs committed four errors and allowed four infield hits, resulting in an unlucky Baker taking the first loss of his collegiate career.

The 4-3 Texas win provided another piece of evidence that in college baseball, the team that makes fewer mistakes wins most of the time. It was a welcome win for Augie Garrido’s club, coming after weeks of close and disappointing losses.

“We played a game without any errors or any mental mistakes, so we did put it together today,” Garrido said. “We didn’t have the weird plays. We didn’t have the weird stuff that has been happening to us up to this point in time.”
