Transparency, Consistency Key In Impossible Selections

This was an impossible situation. There were only four slices of pizza, and a dozen or so hungry kids were eyeing their share. However, there was no way to feed them all.

Just a few days ago, there was an entire pie. Then, one by one, those slices were gobbled up by surprise diners. When it came time to pass them out, there wasn’t enough left for the deserving.

So, how do you decide who gets fed and who goes home angry?
