Photos: Fulmer’s Brilliance Carries Vanderbilt
OMAHA — Carson Fulmer may have been ill, but his pitches were just sick. The Vanderbilt ace struggled with illness Sunday night. Then, he came out and pitched a gem Monday night, leading the Commodores to a 5-1 victory over Virginia in the CWS Finals opener.
Fulmer allowed just two hits and struck out eight in 7.2 scoreless innings. He was locked in a pitchers’ duel with Virginia’s Connor Jones until Will Toffey knocked a two-out double down the left field line to break a scoreless tie in the sixth inning.
