CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  — Almost exactly one year ago, on May 2, 2021, Virginia Tech was in position to cruise into regionals, and still very much alive in the regional hosting race thanks to a 16-13 ACC record. The Hokies had lost back-to-back series, but they had a chance to get back on track with a May 2 rubber game against rival Virginia (who was just 12-17 in the league) in Blacksburg.
