San Francisco Takes Hold Of WCC LeadAt The Ballpark
MALIBU, Calif. — It’s a strange season in the West Coast Conference this year. Very strange indeed.
As my colleague Mark Etheridge alluded to in his “What To Watch For In May” column from yesterday, the WCC is almost certainly a lock to be a one-bid league. The conference RPI is way down at No. 14. And off the top of my head I can’t recall a really impressive non-conference series win. And I mean one where they take down a Top 20 team in two or three games over a weekend, like we have seen the WCC mates do plenty of times before in recent seasons.
So yes, this time around, it’s a one-bid league. The top RPI in the loop belongs to San Diego, who sits at No. 95. And if the season ended today, the Toreros wouldn’t even make the field for the four-team WCC tournament as they entered the weekend in sixth place.
