D1Baseball/AstroTurf Player Of the Week: Texas Tech’s Nate Rombach

You can see why Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock was excited about freshman catcher Nate Rombach back during fall workouts.

Rombach had a monster weekend against Northern Colorado and Houston Baptist and is the inaugural D1Baseball/AstroTurf National Player of the Week award winner.

Arkansas’ Heston Kjerstad, New Mexico State’s Nick Gonzales and Texas A&M’s Zach DeLoach also received strong consideration for the weekly honor. Kjerstad and Gonzales each showed premium power against Eastern Illinois and Texas Southern, respectively, over the weekend, while DeLoach hit well over .700 in a three-game set over Miami (Ohio).

Rombach, a 6-foot-4, 224-pounder, was terrific in his debut with the Red Raiders, hitting .500 in four games with seven hits, nine runs scored, two doubles, five home runs and a whopping 15 RBIs. He finished the weekend with a 1.714 slugging percentage.

Congratulations to the Mansfield, Texas, native. You can go see Nate Romach, and the entire Texas Tech squad, this weekend (Feb. 21-23) at the 2020 Round Rock Classic.
