Last week, Grand Canyon infielder Jacob Wilson went bonkers with 18 hits and earned Player of the Week honors. This week, the D1Baseball/Rapsodo National Player of the Week award goes to hard-hitting Southern Miss veteran slugger Christopher Sargent.

As the Golden Eagles put together a strong week on the diamond, Sargent, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, was the headliner from an offensive standpoint, along with sophomore slugger Slade Wilks.

So, here is what Sargent did last week in four games: He recorded 12 hits and had a .706 average with a whopping five home runs and 15 RBIs. He was joined by Wilks, who also had five homers over the four games against Western Kentucky and New Orleans.

For the season, Sargent is now hitting .279 with four doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 25 RBIs. Perhaps last week was his way of breaking out for the long haul.

Congratulations to Sargent for the weekly honors.
