D1Baseball Top 25 Rankings: Arkansas Takes Over No. 1
I was blown away by OSU Beavers this past weekend! GCU is no give me and the series could have easily gone 1-3 the other direction. After watching a weekend of baseball Tennessee, Virginia and Arizona St were not impressive!
What do you think about Georgia state? Sunbelt team that’s starting out with 18 games in a row against high majors and holding their own so far going 3-5 against ranked West Virginia and Vandy, with 4 more against ranked teams coming up this week in Georgia Tech and Tennessee?
The "ranked when we played them" is virtually meaningless and not a valid argument. Where the opponent is ranked NOW is what counts. The opponent may indeed be ranked again later. Or not. The RPI "wins versus" divisions (1-25, 26-50, etc) change every week. The only ranking/RPI that counts as far as NCAA selection is the one at the end of the regular season. I had this discussion several years with a fan asserting "we beat a top 10 team" in week two. In week four that team was not ranked and ultimately did not make the NCAA field. Needless to say a "win over a top 10 team" was NOT on their resume.
Give up. LOGIC has NO place in this forum. You will type yourself blind if you keep this up. Many will never accept that WHOM you played counts. If a post starts out "Why?" or "How come?" or "I don't understand?" or some frequently whining equivalent, it's best to move on. 🙂
As I say that they are up 8-0 on Georgia Tech in the top of the 6th. So, what would they have to do to get ranked? Right now they look to go to 4-5 on the year against ranked teams (Vandy, WVU and G.Tech) plus the loss against GA. Positive run differential. If they took 2 out of 3 against ranked Tennessee would that have them in your top 25 at 6-6 against a brutal schedule (worst team in their first 12 is the 1 game against GA)?
When they updated the rankings, this team was 3-6. You don't usually break into the top 25 at 3-6, no matter who you're playing. Not sure you're seeing clearly on this.
If they beat TN & especially if they sweep, they'd be on my radar but wouldn't rank them yet. So I'd say they would probably need to win the next two series (TN and KY). Wouldn't hurt to beat Florida in between too.
