Sechrist’s rise, uniqueness helps propel Tennessee to CWS Finals

OMAHA — There might not be a pitcher in the College World Series more unique than Tennessee senior lefthander Zander Sechrist.

In a CWS that has been littered with a sea of 92-96 mph heaters, Sechrist is the opposite. He’s the epitome of unique. He’s the guy that you look up and wonder if the radar gun on the scoreboard might be broken. Proof positive? At one point in Wednesday’s 7-2 win over Florida State to advance to the CWS Finals, Sechrist threw a couple of soft breaking balls. The first – 70 mph. Another – 69 mph.
