‘Bama Takes Bubble Battle
ColumnsHOOVER, Ala. — The SEC Tournament is important to Alabama coach Mitch Gaspard. Played fifty miles from campus on the field that was their home-away-from-home last season, the Crimson Tide coach wanted to put his team in position to play well this week.
He turned to junior righthander Nick Eicholtz and got the start he wanted as Alabama defeated Kentucky, 5-2, in the SEC Tournament opener for both squads; a game many referred to as not just a conference tournament play-in game but also potentially a play-in game for the NCAA Tournament.
