Charlottesville: Virginia crowns new king, bludgeons Duke to force Game 3

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Before Game 2 of the Charlottesville Super Regional Saturday, Virginia star third baseman Jake Gelof drove a ball to the warning track in batting practice. It was caught in almost the exact identical spot where his potential game-winning three-run home run was gloved to end Game 1 the day before.

Gelof always swings hard, but the warning track fly only seemed to make him put even more into his next swing. Whether powered by anger or a tightened focus, Gelof hit the next pitch off the railing protecting the front of the outfield bleachers in left-center field.[…]
