Dirtbags Snag Important Series Opener
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State has barely been playing a month this season, but head coach Eric Valenzuela repeatedly said “it’s crunch time” for his Dirtbags following their series opener against UC Santa Barbara Friday night at Blair Field. The next 10 days could define Long Beach’s season.
It was picked to finish second in the Big West preseason coaches’ poll. There were high expectations for the Dirtbags after they finished No. 16, going 10-5 with series wins over Mississippi State, Wake Forest and California in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.
