ColumnsWorking with USA Baseball for the past week has been therapeutic for NC State coach and USA Collegiate National Team manager Elliott Avent.
Just over a week ago, Avent’s life and program was turned upside down. They were in the driver’s seat at the College World Series and playing an outstanding brand of baseball, only to be sent home after eight players — four vaccinated — tested positive for COVID-19. All of this was decided at 1 a.m., on a Saturday morning, which added confusion and frustration to the situation.
It was the gut punch of all gut punches.
