ColumnsPortland made headlines across the college baseball landscape last weekend when it went into College Station and took a series from No. 5 Texas A&M. It was a new high-water mark for the slow-and-steady construction eighth-year head coach Geoff Loomis has done with the program.
When Loomis took over the Portland baseball program following the 2015 season, not finishing in last place in the West Coast Conference was something to be strived for. The Pilots averaged 40 losses in the three seasons prior to Loomis’ hire.
