In what now seems like ancient history, San Diego was once in the postseason discussion most every year. During that time, head coach Rich Hill led the program, and Eric Valenzuela and Jay Johnson were his assistant coaches. Valenzuela is now the head coach at Long Beach State after being the head man at Saint Mary’s, and Johnson has evolved from USD assistant to the head man for one of the most prestigious programs in college baseball, LSU.
