Sorenson: Friday Regional WrapColumns
Well StitchHeads out there, we call it “June Madness” for a reason.
This was a mad world in college baseball today. We had upsets galore, led by four-seeds Army and Samford taking down ACC mates N.C. State and Florida State, respectively. And keep in mind, only 7 percent of teams that have lost their opening game in Regionals since 1999 have come back to win their Regional. On top of that, in 18 of the last 20 years we have seen a four-seed win a game vs. a one-seed in a Regional opener.
On top of that, two more four-seeds came THISCLOSE to pulling off big Ws, but Morehead State and Wright State both lost to one-seeds in extra innings to Clemson and Stanford respectively. The Eagles and the Raiders were definite burrs in the saddle with their courageous performances. Oh what could’ve been.
Here is a quick-hit look at what happened on opening day of the 2018 Regionals.
