PALO ALTO, Calif. — It’s almost bizarre how teams out West have reacted to this early season when they haven’t had a fall practice. 

For instance, Pepperdine returned nearly its entire team but the Waves have struggled to a 7-10 start. USC is sort of the same. They were cleared by the NCAA to have a hybrid of fall work in the month of December, but not a true, traditional fall session. Because of that, they limped out to a 3-6 start (though they may have turned a corner with this weekend’s sweep of Washington).
