Weekend Spotlight: Florida State Restores Order After Slow Start

Matheu Nelson looked at his body last spring.

He wasn’t thrilled.

“I was a little bit dumpy looking,” Nelson admitted.

Nelson, the starting catcher for the Florida State Seminoles, is 5-foot-11, and he estimates he weighted between 200 to 210 pounds.

But once COVID-19 stopped all sports last spring, Nelson took the opportunity to make some changes.

“I found a treadmill is what happened,” Nelson joked.

Actually, it was much more involved than that as Nelson found a trainer in Tallahassee who started asking some probing questions.

Trainer: “What’s your goal?”

Nelson: “I want to be as athletic as possible.”
