Mark Calvi uttered that phrase as he described South Alabama’s fall practices. The 11th-year head coach has competition all around the diamond, with only four returning position players with over 30 games started and three pitchers that logged 15 innings a year ago. Fortunately, with so much lost production, there’s an influx of newcomers looking to fill critical roles.
