Under The Radar: PittsburghFeatured
You don’t have to ask Pittsburgh coach Joe Jordano what exactly is at stake this weekend.
As we get closer to Selection Monday, he knows his vastly improved Panthers need to start accumulating more impressive victories. As of now, Pitt sits in appealing shape from an RPI standpoint at 35 along with a solid strength of schedule sitting at 42. However, that’s where the impressive marks end. For instance, the Panthers are 6-11 vs. RPI Top 50 and just 8-13 vs. RPI Top 100, along with a losing record in the ACC.
In short, the Panthers, barring a huge surprise, would be out of the postseason if the season ended today, but have plenty of opportunities the rest of the regular season to get their postseason resume in good graces.
That all starts this weekend with defending national champion Virginia coming to the Steel City.
“It’s a statement weekend for sure, as with any of our ACC weekend series. We’re just all bunched up in the standings, and the four remaining conference series are just huge,” he said. “This one in particular, being at home, and the team being the defending national champion, it’s big. I know I can’t wait to get on the field this weekend for this one, and I know the rest of our program feels the same way.”
