NC Central’s Last Dance Is Bittersweet


This is the last season for the North Carolina Central baseball program. In fact, this could be the last week for NCCU baseball.

Or not.

Or, this “last week” could end in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title, automatically advancing the Eagles to their first-ever berth in an NCAA regional.

“That would be storybook,” said Eagles coach Jim Koerner, whose program will be cut after the season, with administrators citing budgetary issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “That would be unbelievable.”

The MEAC’s four-team, double-elimination tournament begins on Thursday, when co-top-seeded NCCU (25-18, 17-11) plays Delaware State (15-26, 13-18) at noon in Norfolk,[…]
