Portal Games Baseball this week released details of its inaugural and soon to be annual event that revolutionizes the relationship between players in the NCAA Transfer Portal and coaches around college baseball. The company has created a one-day showcase and two-game event in Indianapolis that will showcase the skills of players at all levels of the college baseball hierarchy, while also placing a heavy emphasis on Division I players.

“There is a level for every player in the transfer portal in our wonderful game, and we want to make it clear that the event is open to all levels of players,” Portal Games said. “You look around the country and you see DII pitchers moving to the SEC. So, when the summer portal opens, it’s not crazy to hear of coaches getting on four planes in four days to see different players. We want to ease that burden for both parties.

“We want to give coaches and players alike the one stop shop to accomplish all of this. This will be a pro-style workout for one day that will have an exceptional amount of exposure. This experience could provide you with an advantage over someone else who may not choose to attend this type of event.”

The Portal Games was created for college baseball players in the Transfer Portal. The goal for Portal Games, and specifically the event, is to maximize exposure on the player side, and minimize evaluation time on the coach side of things. This event is not meant to be one that will just allow an unlimited number of players. Portal Games has capped attendance at 300 players or below, which is just 13% of the number of players who entered the portal at all levels last summer alone.

The one-day showcase and two-game event will take place at Grand Park in Indianapolis on June 25, 2024, and the location was chosen to be somewhat in the middle of the country to make sure of relatively easy access for all players. The event itself will be led by long-time college baseball coaches and leading consultants in the industry, and more than 100 coaches have already planned to attend the event with more on the way.

Portal Games Baseball looks to give coaches a different perspective of a player in the Transfer Portal. In the day and age where you can easily just watch video of a player, this event allows coaches to see a player in person, evaluate their skills and study their tendencies, among other benefits. It gives coaches the full portfolio of a player.

“We’ve talked to plenty of coaches who feel like what we’re trying to do could be a potential solution to what some call the Wild West of college baseball,” they said. “I’m hoping players view this as an opportunity to enhance their chances of continuing to play baseball at a very high level.”
