CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Every kid dreams of hitting a walk-off home run to win a postseason game. But it’s safe to say nobody dreams of winning a playoff game on a walk-off botched-squeeze-turned-botched-rundown.
But that’s how it went down for North Carolina in a wild 7-6 win against UNC Wilmington in Friday’s Chapel Hill Regional opener. It wasn’t a work of art, but the Tar Heels will take it.
“We’re happy to have won game one,” UNC coach Mike Fox said. “When we woke up this morning, that’s what we wanted to do — win the first game, and that’s what we were able to do. I don’t care how we did it, how long it took, we won the game. And that’s the most important thing.” …
