Return Of CWS Energizes Omaha’s Spirits — And Economy
PostseasonOmaha was eerily quiet.
Just as the first Saturday in May is reserved in Louisville for the Kentucky Derby, and just as the Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis is synonymous with the Indy 500, June in Omaha has — for 70 years — meant that it’s time for the College World Series.
Except for last year.
COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the 2020 CWS, robbing Omaha of what is normally a joyful time, with young athletes and their coaches, fans and families filling the city’s hotels, rental cars, Ubers, cabs, restaurants, super markets and pubs.
