– Austin Bergner (2018, rhp, North Carolina) is filling up the strike zone this summer. In fact, he’s doing so at nearly a 69 percent rate over his last four starts. And the 6-foot-4 righthander was razor sharp once again in his most recent outing against the Cotuit Kettleers. Bergner racked up another five shutout frames, striking out nine batters and allowing only one hit. Once again, as Bergner’s proven over this red hot streak he’s on, if you allow him to settle in and get into a rhythm, he can be downright unhittable. The hard throwing righthander again showed no issues carrying his premium velocity deep into the outing, sitting comfortable at 94-96 mph throughout the game. We’ve seen him have slightly better command of his fastball than he had in this one, but he also is wise enough to continue pitching aggressively and elevates his fastball to net swings and misses. Hitters have not been getting good reads on his fastball, even when the location hasn’t been precise.
