High School Top 100 Prospects

Prospects

With the draft less than fifty days away and teams beginning to bear down on their early targets, now is as good a time as any to take an updated look at what the 2017 high school crop has to offer, as well as to which programs they’ve committed. A lot has changed this spring, as some breakout performances have shaken up the draft landscape on the high school side. North Carolina prep outfielder Austin Beck has seen his stock skyrocket and Texas hurler Shane Baz has also seen his stock take a significant leap forward. There are still some constants in this class, however, and among the most prominent of those constants is two-way superstar Hunter Greene, who still has a very comfortable hold on the number one spot on our list.

It’s a high school class that remains relatively wide open, however, as there still seem to be a lot of shifts in consensus among scouts from week to week so far this spring. In many ways, this crop is heavily defined by high upside, untapped talent, and in the same way we’ve already seen players like Shane Baz tap into their potential and make a run up the board, there are still more players we could see make a similar push. Especially given the very fluid nature of all high school rankings, particularly this 2017 group, we also still need to keep a very close eye on each of these players as potential future stars at the collegiate level. Stock rises and falls quickly in the world of high school draft prospects, and this is not a year loaded with first round locks.

With that in mind, here is our updated look at the top 100 high school players in the 2017 draft class. This list is still apt to change in the weeks ahead, but for now is based on a compilation of the most recent evaluations from MLB scouts, as well as first-hand scouting observations from National Prospect Writer, Frankie Piliere.
