D1Baseball Top 25: Final 2016 RankingsRankings
After winning the first national championship in school history and leading the nation with 55 wins, Coastal Carolina finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final D1Baseball Top 25 rankings of 2016. The Chanticleers won 24 of their last 28 games and 11 of 14 games in the NCAA tournament en route to the title.
National runner-up Arizona, which peaked in the regular-season rankings at No. 22 on May 9 but entered the postseason unranked, vaulted to No. 2 in the final rankings. Big 12 powers TCU, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five after making runs to the College World Series. Fellow Omaha participants Florida, Miami and UC Santa Barbara checked in at No. 6 through No. 8, respectively. The Gauchos, like Arizona, were unranked at the end of the regular season after losing three of their final four conference series, but their run to Omaha jumped them all the way into the top eight of the final rankings.
Texas A&M, which headed into the postseason atop the rankings, fell eight spots to No. 9 after falling in the College Station Super Regional to TCU. SEC champion Mississippi State, another super regional team, rounded out the top 10.
In addition to Arizona and UCSB, two other teams went from unranked at the end of the regular season to ranked in the final Top 25. Boston College jumped in at No. 15 after winning the Oxford Regional, and East Carolina returned to the rankings at No. 16 following a triumph at the Charlottesville Super Regional.
Southern Miss, Ohio State, Cal State Fullerton, Florida Atlantic and Bryant fell out of the rankings after falling short of reaching regional finals.
D1Baseball editors Aaron Fitt and Kendall Rogers determine the Top 25 rankings. Records are through June 30, the end of the 2016 season.
