D1Baseball Top 25 Rankings: April 13
• Weekly Chat Transcript
Texas A&M took over No. 1 in the D1Baseball Top 25 rankings for the first time this season. The Aggies took two out of three from Mississippi State to improve to 33-3 overall, while last week’s No. 1, Vanderbilt, dropped a home series against Ole Miss and fell six spots to No. 7 in the rankings.
Texas A&M is the fourth different SEC team to earn the No. 1 ranking this year, following Vandy, Florida and LSU. No other conference has had a team reach the top of the rankings through nine weeks. Four of the top seven teams in the rankings this week play in the SEC: Texas A&M, No. 2 LSU, No. 6 Florida and Vanderbilt.
UCLA jumped three spots to No. 3 after winning a road series against rival Southern California, which fell from No. 8 to No. 12. Fellow Pac-12 power Arizona State moved up a spot to No. 4, and Louisville moved up two places to No. 5 after improving to 16-2 in ACC play.
No. 8 TCU, No. 9 UC Santa Barbara and No. 10 Miami round out the top 10. Missouri made the biggest move of any team in the rankings this week, jumping five spots to No. 14. There was a vacuum in the middle of the rankings after the teams ranked 14-17 last week all lost series, allowing Missouri (just a game out of first place in the SEC East) to make its move.
Three new teams joined the Top 25. Iowa jumped in at No. 19 after winning a road series against Maryland, which fell six spots to No. 22. Big West leader UC Irvine entered the rankings at No. 20 after winning a series against Long Beach State, though the Anteaters had their 15-game winning streak snapped on Sunday. And UNC Wilmington made its debut in the rankings at No. 25 after sweeping William & Mary to run its winning streak to seven games.
D1Baseball editors Aaron Fitt and Kendall Rogers determine the Top 25 rankings. Records are through games of April 12.
