Etheridge: New Tournament Format Checks BoxesSEC Extra
In the 16-team Southeastern Conference that begins in 2025, making it to Hoover won’t be a thing anymore.
Unlike the current format where the top dozen teams qualify and two are left at home, the new format will bring every team to the Hoover Met in suburban Birmingham in late May.
After some back and forth on the desired format, the final bracket features 16 teams, single elimination. The bottom eight teams (seeds 9-16) will play on Tuesday, with the winners advancing to face seeds 5-8. Those winners advance to face the top four seeds, who receive a double-bye.
