Intra-conference transfers shape SEC rosters
SEC ExtraCollege athletics has never been more transitory, as some programs bring in 30 newcomers per season. Finding players who can compete at the highest level in the sport is, in most cases, more art than science.
The goal is to find plug-and-play newcomers. Those players can come from various backgrounds. However, coaches often look for a track record of facing similar competition to minimize risk.
Coaches like SEC transfers because they have already faced SEC competition. Sometimes, the players have been through the SEC wars. Other times, that competition has only been to secure positions in intra-squad games.
