SEC Player and Pitcher of the Week – 2024 Week 1

Player of the Week – Slate Alford, Georgia

Alford made quite an impression right away for the Bulldogs in their opening weekend sweep of UNC-Asheville, going 6-for-14 with three home runs, nine RBIs and five runs scored, and each of his first two hits in a Georgia uniform were home runs on opening day. There have never been doubts about Alford’s raw talent, but he’s yet to come close to reaching his ceiling. Tougher competition will come as the season goes on, but this was certainly an excellent step in the right direction.
