D1Baseball Adds “The Schoch Factor” Podcast Featuring Cespedes Family BBQ’s Jake/Jordan

Stories

D1Baseball is your one-stop-shop for everything Division I Baseball on the internet. So, it’s only natural that we continue to add content pieces and staff that provide more insights. That’s precisely why we’re thrilled to announce the addition of a new podcast, ‘The Schoch Factor’ featuring former Virginia reliever Stephen Schoch, along with Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman of Cespedes Family BBQ.

‘The Schoch Factor’ joins the D1Baseball Podcast Network, which already includes the original D1Baseball Podcast, the D1 Players Society Podcast hosted by Wes Burton, and the Sidearm Delivery Podcast, hosted by our own Shotgun Spratling.

The podcast featuring Schoch, Mintz and Shusterman will tackle college baseball from a different angle than you’re used to. It will serve as a front door entrance to our great sport, discussing the latest big plays, trends, and other quirky aspects of college baseball. It’s a podcast designed for the hardcore and casual fans alike.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Schoch and the Cespedes Family BBQ boys to our podcast network,” Managing Editor Kendall Rogers said. “I’ve known Jake and Jordan for a long time, and those two have made professional baseball fans laugh for years. Now, they’ll do the same in college baseball. As for Schoch, in my eyes, he is what college baseball is all about, and his engaging personality fits perfectly with what we’re trying to accomplish at D1Baseball.

“Schoch, Jake and Jordan make me laugh every single day and I can’t wait to make their podcast part of my weekly routine,” Managing Editor Aaron Fitt said. “These guys have so much passion for all levels of baseball, and I’m so excited for them to share their energy with D1Baseball’s audience.

‘The Schoch Factor’ Podcast will record at the end of each weekend and will be on D1Baseball and other podcast platforms early in the week. Schoch will have additional roles with D1Baseball, serving as a social liaison to help promote the sport at all levels.

“There’s no better place to do this style of podcast than with the folks at D1Baseball,” Jake Mintz said. “Strap on your stirrups and shave half your beard, because it’s going to be a fun ride.”

“We’re amped about the opportunity to continue shining a light on the wild and wonderful world of college baseball,” Jordan Shusterman said. “And to do so with someone like Stephen Schoch who shares the same passion? It’s special.”

“After spending the last six years playing college baseball, I’m excited to get to join the D1Baseball team and stay involved with the game I love,” Stephen Schoch said. “I can’t wait to shine a light on all the awesome things that are happening in the game and highlighting the players that make these moments possible.”

Schoch has been around several programs in college baseball. He began his pitching career at Appalachian State in 2016 before heading to UMBC for a couple of seasons. He ultimately landed at Virginia, where he helped guide the Cavaliers to the College World Series last season, and became famous because of his pitching, and more so because of an in-game interview where he endorsed Dippin’ Dots. Mintz also played college baseball for Division III Washington University in Saint Louis. The righthanded pitcher worked 48.1 innings in his career, striking out 41 and walking. He also had one at bat that resulted in a strikeout.
