DURHAM, N.C. — Brian O’Connor has been confident since the fall that his Virginia offense would be formidable. But he also recognized, like any rational observer would, that it wouldn’t be easy to replace ace Andrew Abbott and postseason star Griff McGarry in the rotation. Much would depend upon whether or not lefthander Nate Savino could harness his potential and become a legitimate ACC Friday night ace in his third season in Charlottesville, after posting a 3.79 ERA with a lackluster 34-16 K-BB mark a year ago.
