JMU’s Chase DeLauter Wins D1 Summer Breakout Prospect Award

Heading into the summer with an assignment to play for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League, James Madison two-way talent Chase DeLauter didn’t know if he belonged. Considering JMU plays in the Colonial Athletic Association, DeLauter knew the league is typically filled with players from Power Five and nationally recognized mid-major programs that regularly appear in the NCAA tournament.

After slashing .298/.397/.589 and finishing the summer as the league’s co-leader in home runs with nine, DeLauter not only proved he belongs, but his performance allowed him to earn the 2021 D1Baseball Summer Breakout Prospect award.
