Making The Case For Extended Protective Netting

LSU coach Paul Mainieri was worried for years – and his concern had nothing to do with wins and losses.

Mainieri, whose “office” at Tigers home games is the first-base dugout at Alex Box Stadium, has seen countless hard foul balls whizz over his head and into the stands, destined for destruction.

Fans were at risk.

“It would scare me to death,” Mainieri said. “I lobbied our administration to do something.”

Before the 2020 season, LSU spent $73,152 to get all new netting and extend it to cover the entire grandstand, which reaches into the outfield.
