LONG BEACH, Calif. — There’s no way to sugarcoat it: Southern California’s season-opening series loss to North Dakota was the most stunning upset of the young college baseball season. North Dakota is a hungry club that has some legitimate talent, but a ranked USC team shouldn’t lose a home series in February against a snowbound opponent that doesn’t have an iota of the Trojans’ rich baseball heritage.
