Rogers: Houston-Team USA 18U TakeawaysAnalysis
HOUSTON — It’s always good to have a litmus test, and that’s precisely what USA Baseball’s 18U club aimed for over the past week with scrimmages throughout the Lone Star State, namely against Texas, Houston and junior college powerhouse San Jacinto (Texas) CC.
While Team USA finished the Texas trip with a 1-3 record in those contests, they head to an international tournament in Mexico with much-needed experience. UCLA commitment Hunter Greene proved himself to be worthy of the lofty praise already placed on him, while LSU commitment Brice Turang looked like one of the best players on the field against Houston, even as a 2018 prospect.
As for the Cougars, the big story on Monday night was Seth Romero’s start on the mound. Romero is one of the top junior prospects in college baseball and didn’t disappoint, while Houston had several young players who made strong first impressions.
What’s the inside scoop on the top 2017 and ’18 draft prospects on Team USA and Houston’s 2017 club so far this fall? Come find out.
