D1 Spotlight: Wichita State surging at right time


Needing just four pitchers on the weekend and outscoring the Pirates by a combined 23-3, Wichita State swept No. 7 East Carolina in impressive fashion, marking the first time the Shockers have swept a ranked team at home since 1991 when they beat No. 10 Creighton.

Just as he’s done most of the season, Payton Tolle set the tone on the mound. The sophomore lefthander was masterful in the opener, tossing a two-hit shutout with 10 punchouts and no walks as the Shockers cruised to an 8-0 win.
