Fitt: Spartans Show Heart In Big Comeback
EAST LANSING, Mich. — It was almost like Matt Byars’ solo homer in the seventh inning broke Oliver Jaskie’s spell. Jaskie, Michigan’s sophomore lefthander, had cruised through six innings of three-hit, scoreless ball, and with Jaskie in firm control, Michigan’s 5-0 lead felt insurmountable. Even after Byars launched his solo shot to left-center with one out in the seventh, the Wolverines still led 5-1 — but maybe that homer showed the Spartans a crack in Jaskie’s armor.
