For the Portland Pilots, the eighth inning was that snowball that turned into the mighty avalanche. LMU, facing a 5-3 deficit, ended up sending 13 batters to the plate in the eighth inning and scored eight runs to turn that deficit into an 11-5 advantage. And that’s what the final score would be a few outs later.
