Officially formed in 1923, the Cape Cod League celebrated its 100th anniversary this summer. What started as a four team league for just local residents of all ages became an NCAA sanctioned league in 1963, as it expanded to include only amateur players from all over the country. In 1985 the league switched to wood bats which added to its popularity and aided its growth.
