Sorenson: Off The Top Of My Head

Well I hope you all are in recovery mode from last weekend’s “Best Weekend of College Baseball This Year” extravaganza. It was an epic weekend, for sure. And that was followed up with some very interesting midweek baseball as well – we’ll get to some of that in a bit. First, since last weekend was so great I suppose it’s only natural that it is followed up with a weekend that will be on the rather blah side.

Or will it?

If you recall, last weekend had a bunch of scintillating upsets spliced in alongside all the great matchups. So I’m thinking even though this isn’t a marquee weekend, there are bound to be some stunners again. Let’s start what’s going on in my head with that premise.

Looking For An Upset

Some of the series this weekend which could produce a shocker… or two… or three. I’ll give the odds of an upset on this scale:
– Extremely good.
– Good.
– Fair.
– Poor.
– None.

– No. 19 St. John’s at Liberty
The Johnnies are 16th nationally in ERA at 2.55 and seventh in bating average at .340. They’ve pulled wins off at Coastal Carolina, North Carolina and a neutral site win over Kansas State. But this will be a tough atmosphere in Lynchburg. The Flames are good, with wins over Kentucky and Kansas, but also got beat bad by Virginia and were swept by K-State. The schedule has been modified to have a doubleheader Saturday, so that just increases the odds of a Flames upset.

Chance for one win: Extremely good
Chance for two wins: Fair
