Carmen Benedetti helped lead Michigan to an emphatic sweep this weekend, landing the Wolverines in the Top 25 and atop Michael Baumann's King in the North rankings.

King In The North: April 5

The MAC has been about as interesting as advertised so far this year, with a robust competition for the Eastern division title, while a surprising Eastern Michigan squad leads the West, and preseason division favorite Central Michigan sits at 1-2 in the conference and 5-23 overall.

We expected the race for conference player of the year to be equally robust: Central Michigan’s Zach McKinstry had a strong preseason case, as did Ohio’s Mitch Longo, Ball State’s Jarett Rindfleisch, Kent State’s Zarley Zalewski, and a few others.

But as of this moment, Ball State outfielder Alex Call is running away with that award. He doesn’t have it locked up, but the MAC player of the year award has stopped returning other players’ text messages for the time being, and it’s taken Call home to meet its parents.
