D1 Spotlight: East Carolina wins wild series, DBU’s Ryan Johnson surges

Entering the weekend No. 11 East Carolina and No. 15 North Carolina had played each other 88 times with the Tar Heels holding a 54-34 advantage in those contests. While the two programs have played each other in numerous midweek contests over the years, this season marks the third in a row that they have met in a traditional three-game series the second weekend of the regular season. For the second year in a row East Carolina claimed the series thanks to a thrilling 10-9 win on Sunday in Greenville in front of a sellout crowd at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
