UCSB’s Bieber Wins Showdown Vs. Brown
SAN DIEGO — It was billed as the premier pitching matchup of the Tony Gwynn Classic, but the showdown between UC Santa Barbara’s Shane Bieber and Kentucky’s Zack Brown was one-sided. Bieber did what he always did and carved up the Wildcats, while Brown showed much more electric stuff but struggled with his command — and didn’t get any help from his defense. The Gauchos got to Brown for three runs in the second inning and never looked back, cruising to an 11-4 victory that showcased the advantages of pitchability over big-time stuff, at least at the college level.
