Manhattan Closes Out Carousel By Hiring David Miller

The busiest head coaching carousel of the modern era has come to a close as Manhattan is slated to hire former La Salle head coach David Miller as its new head coach, sources on Friday told D1Baseball.
Miller replaces former Jaspers head coach Mike Cole, who departed the program after five seasons to become the top assistant on Chris Tracz’s Army coaching staff. Cole tallied a 90-122 overall record during his tenure.
As for Miller, the former Clemson player made waves two seasons ago as he guided La Salle to an unprecedented season in a year that ended with the program getting cut. That season, the Explorers won a school-record 32 games overall and 15 in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Miller spent the 2022 season at Division III Penn State-Abington, and he immediately put his fingerprints on the program. Not only did they go 33-11 this past season, they had one of the premier players in Division II Baseball in Ryan McCarty, who finished the season with an unbelievable .529 batting average, along with 29 home runs and 91 RBIs.
Miller hopes to immediately turn the tide with the Jaspers program starting with the 2023 campaign. Manhattan made back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2011 and ’12, but have not been back to the tournament since. The program is best known for its run in the 2006 postseason that ended with a 2-2 record at the Lincoln, Neb., Regional.
With Miller’s hire at Manhattan and Grant Neary getting promoted from assistant to head coach at Saint Peter’s, the book, for now, is closed on head coaching changes in 2022. The total tally of head coaching changes sits at 45, which is by far a record in the modern era.
