GAINESVILLE, Fla. – South Carolina and the host Florida Gators waited through a 157-minute weather delay prior to the start of Friday night’s super regional.

Less than 57 seconds later, the Gamecocks (42-20) led due to Will McGillis’ leadoff homer on the game’s second pitch.

Yet it was the Gators – despite trailing as late as the fifth inning – who battled back to win 5-4 in the opener of the best-of-three series that will give the winner a ticket to Omaha for the eight-team College World Series.
