Midwest Connection: Purdue arms shut down mighty Rutgers bats

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue picked a good month to claim four weekend series, as the Boilermakers look ahead to the eight-team Big Ten Tournament. They opened the month by taking three winnable series against the Big Ten’s cellar dwellers – Northwestern, Minnesota and Penn State – before losing their series at newly ranked Maryland a week ago. They did take the opening game against the Terps and entered their series at home against Rutgers with an in-conference record of 8-7, which would have been good enough for the No. 8 seed in the B1G Tournament.
